Privacy policy
Effective September 22, 2026 · Bellbird
Bellbird listens to your instrument so it can tell you how close each string is to pitch, and that is all it does with the microphone. There is no account, no analytics and no advertising. The only thing the app ever sends us is a crash report, and you can turn that off.
The short version
- Your playing never leaves your device. Bellbird analyses microphone audio in memory, as it arrives, to find the pitch. It never records, stores or transmits audio.
- No account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking. There is nothing to sign in to, no analytics SDK and no advertising identifier.
- Crash reports carry nothing personal. If Bellbird crashes, it sends a technical report to a server we run ourselves. You can turn this off at any time.
- We never sell or share data. We don’t collect any to sell.
Every connection the app can make
| Connection | When | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Crash reporting | On by default. Turn it off in Settings ▸ Privacy ▸ Send crash reports. | When the app crashes, a technical report — the stack trace, the Bellbird version, the operating system version, and the device model with similar technical details — goes to a self-hosted error-tracking service (GlitchTip) that we operate. No third party is involved. Reports contain no name, account, audio, or record of what you were doing; the app removes user and request details before sending. As with any internet connection, our server sees the IP address a report comes from. |
| Update check | Mac only, for the version downloaded from this site. Once a day while the app runs; turn it off in Settings ▸ Updates. | A request to our public release feed, which reveals your IP address and the app’s version. No system profile is sent. On iPhone and iPad the App Store handles updates, so the app makes no such request. |
Bellbird makes no other network connections.
Purchases
Bellbird for iPhone and iPad is sold through the App Store. Apple handles payment; we receive no name, email address or payment details from Apple — only the aggregate sales figures Apple provides to every developer.
Your settings
Your tunings, tempo, pinned chords and other preferences are stored on your device (and in your device’s own backups). Deleting the app deletes them.
Children
Bellbird is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated effective date, and material changes will be called out in the release notes before they ship.
